Animals at Home? Think about it

Although many people enjoy having pets, many others are against keeping animals at home. I agree with this last group and that is why I haven’t had any pets since I was eight.

Firstly, lots of families have pets in small houses and they never walk their dogs, they have birds in cages and fish in fishbowl. They look like prisoners and they develop behaviours and illnesses that are not the typical ones for these animals. Secondly there are many pets, such as turtles, parrots or guinea pigs that bring diseases to human beings and it is preferable that we do not keep them as pets. Last but not least, there are other pets, such as certain breeds of dogs that are very dangerous for children because they can bite the little ones if the kids do not know how to handle them.

However, those in favour of having pets think that it can be very beneficial for the family as some scientist have found that domestic animals can help to cure certain illnesses such as depression or stress. They also claim that animals are excellent for children as they play an important part in the process of growing up.

To sum up, sometimes pets seem to be amiable and good company, but the truth is that they can become very dangerous for their owners. It is better if they stay in their natural habitat.
